✝︎Religious Education
The Church recognizes that learning about the Catholic faith is a lifelong process that begins in the home, with the parents/guardians as the first and foremost catechists of their children. We ask that you support the goals and objectives of our program by attending weekly Mass, showing interest in the lessons and projects your child brings home, as well as talking with them about their experience in class. Our goal is to instill in your child the richness and beauty of the Catholic faith on a level that is easily understood and that can be incorporated into everyday life.
UPDATE: RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2024-2025
Dear St. John Vianney families,
As you have been made aware, St. John Vianney will not offer religious education classes this year. While this is quite unfortunate, I would like to give you some information about local churches and opportunities for your children to grow in our beautiful Catholic faith.
St. Dennis has an online home study course: www.Saint-Dennis.org/DRE. After a student registers, they are sent a link to access their lessons online. The faith formation administrator at St. Dennis tracks your child's progress throughout the year and invites you to attend parent-student gatherings throughout the year. For those students making their Sacraments (Communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation) please go to www.Saint-Dennis.org/SPP. If you choose to have your child make his sacrament at St. Dennis church, parish membership will be required. Otherwise, your child may stay at St. John Vianney for the reception of these sacraments but please inform me of this decision so we can make proper arrangements.
St. Joseph Church in Lockport has a well-established traditional in-person regular CCD/RE program, led by an experienced deacon. If you wish to explore what St. Joseph Parish has to offer, please contact their parish office at 815-838-0187 for more information and to register. They have an excellent faith formation program. Please inquire whether or not parish membership is required to join their program and/or to receive their sacraments at St. Joseph Church.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at
